Available on enabled BT exchanges only. Uses standard copper cables for the last element of the journey from the exchange cabinet to your premises.
Suitable for most applications and would be our recommended solution for a business whenever the local exchange is enabled.
|ADSL(Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line)Cheapest, unreliable.||The most common form of broadband delivery currently in use. Offers more bandwidth downstream from the internet than it does upstream to it. Bandwidth available depends on distance from the exchange but can be as low as 2048:256 and as high as 8192:1024
Not suitable for implementations where you are delivering services from your premises to external (upstream) users because it can get swamped.
Individual lines can be aggregated together to improve overall capability.
No SLA available.
Aside from their higher cost, business broadband services differ from those provided to home users in a number of ways :
|Contention rates||Although no longer published, most domestic broadband services run over copper cables that are “shared” with your neighbours. The number of people sharing the same connection as you can vary from 20 (20:1) to 50 (50:1) – generally the cheaper the broadband is, the higher the contention rate.|
|Traffic management||Domestic broadband services usually employ traffic management at peak times. This means that they give priority to services that don’t impact performance as much.|
|Service Level Agreements||There are no SLAs on domestic broadband. If you get cut off for any reason then repairs are done on a best endeavours basis with no timescale guarantees. Clearly not suitable for a business.|
|Fair usage policies||You may find that your domestic provide limits the amount of certain types of traffic you can access each month. Once the limit is reached, it stops working.|
