Westgate Oxford is a major retail and leisure destination located in Oxford city centre. The scheme underwent a significant redevelopment and extension between 2016 and 2017. The centre fronts onto Bonn Square, the historic location of Oxford’s medieval West Gate, from which the development takes its name.
Covering approximately 800,000 sq. ft., Westgate Oxford accommodates around 100 retail and dining units, as well as a cinema. Following the £440 million redevelopment, the centre now attracts approximately 15 million visitors annually and has created over 3,500 full-time jobs.
The challenge
As part of a comprehensive refurbishment programme, Westgate required a new digital signage solution aligned with the centre’s modern, playful architectural aesthetic. The signage needed to be highly visible, legible from a distance, and impactful, while remaining sympathetic to the surrounding environment.
A key requirement was the ability to display real-time public transport information, with arrival and departure times automatically updated rather than manually managed.
The solution
entrustIT delivered a digital signage solution tailored to Westgate’s operational and design requirements. The installation comprised:
- One 55” wall-mounted display
- Two 65” free-standing display screens
These displays were positioned in prominent locations throughout the shopping centre to present live bus arrival and departure information for all public transport services serving Westgate. The solution provides clear, consistent, and automatically updated information, enhancing the visitor experience while complementing the overall design of the centre.
The benefits
DWM delivered the works to a tightly managed programme defined by LLAOL, coordinating on-site engineering resources alongside multiple contractors delivering parallel services.
Effective planning and collaboration ensured the installation was completed smoothly, with minimal disruption to the airport’s day-to-day operations.
As a result, London Luton Airport now benefits from a highly modern, technically advanced security solution that supports the ongoing safety of passengers and staff.
