After qualifying as an electronics engineer, Ian moved into the IT sector in 1983, working at Computer Ancillaries with notable figures like Joe Hemani and Gary Levell. Before the internet era, IT jobs required extensive travel for on-site fixes. Computer Ancillaries was acquired by LSI/CPU PLC, where Ian was promoted to a senior engineering role.
Ian’s second company was acquired by Data Design Techniques, where he joined the senior management team at 22, specializing in technologies like Real 32, DR-DOS, Unix, and NeXT Step. He then joined the startup Linetex (Esteem) as Southern Area Team leader, developing Microsoft and Novell skills.
At Concept Computing Ltd in Kingston, Ian became qualified in Microsoft, Novell, and Citrix, leading large-scale projects. Ian was headhunted by Versata in Oakland, California, working with clients like UBS, Goldman Sachs, and Merrill Lynch.
After a stint with Genesis Group in Doncaster, Ian co-founded the business that would later become entrustIT South Central. His IT career has taken him worldwide, including visits to the offices of Richard Branson and Frank Skinner. On weekends, Ian plays guitar with American rock legend Joe Jammer of Supertramp and Steeler’s Wheel.
