Hybrid Air Vehicles designs and manufactures highly innovative, practical, and commercially viable hybrid aircraft, most notably the Airlander platform. Building on more than 40 years of investment and expertise in lighter-than-air engineering, the organisation has achieved numerous industry firsts and continues to push the boundaries of aerospace innovation.
By creating a new category of air transport, Hybrid Air Vehicles delivers significant advances in safety, operating efficiency, environmental performance, and operational flexibility. The result is Airlander—the world’s largest aircraft and a step change in aviation capability.
Development begins with advanced CAD modelling, followed by small-scale demonstrators and extensive wind tunnel and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) testing to validate and optimise performance. Once designs are proven, full-scale production of the Airlander commences, utilising state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing techniques.
The challenge
As part of its ongoing expansion, Hybrid Air Vehicles identified the need to relocate from its existing facilities at the Cardington Hangars to new offices on Ampthill Road, Bedford. The new premises required a comprehensive re-cabling programme to support a more progressive, scalable, and future-ready infrastructure.
The project was delivered against a short lead time, requiring rapid turnaround of commercial proposals and swift mobilisation to meet the client’s timeline.
The solution
entrustIT was commissioned to design and install two new communications cabinets within the main third-floor server room, providing sufficient capacity to support existing servers, switching infrastructure, and both new and legacy data cabling. The cabinets were configured to accommodate Cat5e master-end presentations, fibre connectivity, voice services, management systems, and active switching equipment.
entrustIT’s design team developed the cabinet layouts within the allocated space in line with client preferences and operational requirements. These designs were then executed by the engineering teams, utilising appropriate containment and accessory solutions to support a robust and maintainable installation. The resulting server room environment was optimised for accessibility, usability, and ongoing operational efficiency.
The new communications infrastructure forms the central hub for all IP-based communications within the office, providing a critical foundation for a rapidly growing organisation with a strong reliance on high-performance data access.
Category 6A cabling was deployed throughout the facility, delivering a highly future-ready wired infrastructure capable of supporting increased Power over Ethernet (PoE) requirements and high-bandwidth applications.
As a result of the robust communications cabinet infrastructure implemented by entrustIT, Hybrid Air Vehicles now benefits from a future-ready wired platform capable of supporting emerging technologies. The high-bandwidth design ensures new systems and applications can be integrated seamlessly, providing long-term scalability and operational flexibility.
