Legal professionals in the cloud age

When we started entrustIT in 2006, it was hard to convince people that remotely delivered IT solutions could work. For many organisations, the idea that you could function without a suite of servers onsite seemed impossible. DIY IT was the norm.

That’s changed now. The cloud has transformed from something abstract to something tangible. Every day more businesses migrate at least some of their business activity to the cloud. The trend for cloud adoption spans businesses of all sizes in all types of industry.

Except for law firms.

“While the corporate world has been quick to harness technologies such as data analytics and cloud-based computing, the legal sector has been slower off the mark” comments Sarah Murray of the Financial Times. It seems Legal professionals have been reluctant to embrace advancements in technology, perhaps due to the sensitive nature of their work raising questions about the security of the cloud.

But this looks set to change.

A study conducted in 2015 by PwC found that 94% of law firms surveyed viewed improving the use of technology as their number one priority for 2016. Matt Spiegel, a Lawyer and founder of My Case asserted that “even the most technologically sceptical of lawyers can see the advantages of giving clients options that better manage and understand their legal experiences.”

As a primarily cloud business, we understand the value of a cloud based solution. Which is why we built the entrustIT Legal Desktop. Specifically designed for legal practices, the entrustIT Legal Desktop provides commonly used legal applications on a hosted desktop, which can be accessed anywhere, at any time, on virtually any device.

We worked with Halebury, a London law firm with clients including BskyB and Nike, in order to produce a desktop that caters to every lawyer’s needs. “Most of our lawyers work from home or from clients’ offices,” explained Denise Nurse, a founding Director of Halebury. “We needed a robust solution that removed the need for us to maintain and support our systems internally, provided our lawyers with access to applications from any location and which would ensure a secure and centralised information repository.”

By moving their apps and data to the cloud, Halebury were able to focus on what they do best, knowing that their business data is safe in our Tier 4, ISO27001 certified,  UK datacentres.. Any support issues they have are handled by a support team based in the UK and because their business is constantly evolving, they can scale their services up and down each month depending on their demand.

What makes entrustIT Legal Desktop different from other cloud solutions?

Our engineers will work with you to implement a desktop that caters to the needs of your business. No two entrust desktops are the same, because no two businesses are the same. Our hosted desktop infrastructure is built on Citrix, which is faster and more stable than the RDS service used by most cloud providers. Finally, entrustIT also provides one of the broadest list of cloud products of any provider. From services such as Hosted SharePoint, which allows quick sharing of documents amongst colleagues and Skype for Business, allowing lawyers to keep in contact with clients on the go using video calling. For any problem, there is a hosted solution.

94% of legal firms have placed improvements in technology at the top of their list of priorities for 2016. Will you be one of them?
